VGC’s investment
Dan Rookwood, then at Mr Porter and a VGC advisor, introduced Percival’s founder, Chris Gove, to VGC in the brand’s early days with the view that this was a menswear line with strong potential. At that time the business was not ready for investment but VGC helped Chris to strengthen his business plan. He got back in touch in early 2018, having implemented the advice, and we made a seed investment of £150k. The brand performed so strongly that in 2020, we brought Percival into the main fund with a £3m investment and helped to put a senior team in place.
Through our network and talent management business we introduced Percival to England football manager Gareth Southgate and sealed the deal to dress him for Euro 2020, which took place in 2021 due to the pandemic. After further impressive growth, VGC completed follow-on investment in early 2022.
