VGC’s investment

VGC’s investment in Sproud is a continuation of our belief in the viability of plant-based food technology, following our success working with Eat JUST’s plant-based egg replacement. Bloomberg estimates this sector will reach $162bn in retail sales by 2030 – with alternative dairy accounting for $62.3bn of that – growing with a CAGR of 18.6% over the period. With Mintel research suggesting that 32% of consumers now drink dairy alternatives, increasing to 60% of urban coffee shop customers, plant milk is becoming more and more mainstream. Having trialled all the products, Sproud won out on taste as well as nutritional profile and environmental impact.

The Swedish founders were receptive to VGC’s proactive approach and our belief in their mission – and they welcomed the operational structure and expertise we brought. Encouraged by the growth potential as more countries switch on to dairy alternatives, as well as the strong pipeline of new product development, VGC has followed its initial investment.
